His Excellency Archbishop Fortunatus Nwachukwu, Apostolic Nuncio and Holy See Permanent Observer to the United Nations and Specialised Institutions in Geneva and at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and Holy See Representative at the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), was born on 10 May 1960 in Ntigha, Nigeria.

Archbishop Fortunatus Nwachukwu was ordained a priest on 17 June 1984 for the Diocese of Aba. He has a doctorate in Dogmatic Theology and Canon Law.

Having entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See on 1 July 1994, he served in the Apostolic Nunciatures in Ghana, Paraguay and Algeria, as well as as Counsellor to the Permanent Mission of the Holy See in Geneva.

On 4 Settember 2007, Archbishop Nwachukwu was named Head of Protocol of the Secretariat of State of the Holy See, where he served until being named Apostolic Nuncio in Nicaragua on 12 November 2012, assuming the Titular See of Acquaviva.

On 4 November 2017, Pope Francis appointed him as Apostolic Nuncio in Trinidad and Tobago, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Jamaica, Grenada, the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Santa Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Suriname, and apostolic delegate in the Antilles; and Holy See Plenipotentiary Representative at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

Archbishop Nwachukwu was named Holy See Permanent Observer to the United Nations and Specialised Institutions in Geneva and at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and Holy See Representative at the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) on 17 December 2021.

Archbishop Nwachukwu is fluent in English, Italian, German, modern Hebrew, French, Spanish and Arabic.
